Birds

I was giving the kindergarteners an assessment today, and one of them was on categories. We asked them to think of some bird's names. My favorite was Patrick, who came up with "eagle, hawk, thunderbird, and bluebird". Not the first birds that would come to my mind, but two eagles are nesting in the trees behind the playgound, hawks are everywhere, and the high school's mascot is the thunderbird. Bluebird I think he picked because its a color.

St. Patrick's Day is tomorrow, and I'm discovering that a lot of my students have a little Irish in them, which is neat.
