Johnny Carson

January 24, 2005
On Friday night, the priests invited us and the Sisters over to their house for pizza and a movie. They got a DVD player this year, so they wanted to show it off. Except they wanted to show Whale Rider, but they lent it to somebody and forgot who, so we watched Keeping the Faith. That was interesting to watch with priests and nuns, since its about a priest and a rabbi who both fall for the same girl. Fr. Bob said he thought that the chracter of the priest was very true to life, but I didn't want to ask him if he'd ever fallen in love while a priest. He's very handsome, for an older man, so I'm sure some women have been in love with him at least.

I was talking to my Dad today about Johnny Carson, and he told me my grandparents had met him before he did the Tonight Show. I knew they had gone on a TV game show when they were newlyweds, but I didn't realize that Carson was the host. Ed McMahon was the announcer, and when he left for the Tonight Show, he insisted that he get to bring his announcer along too. It was called Who Do You Trust?, and Carson would name a category, like baseball, and then ask Grandpa, "Who do you trust to answer this question, you or your wife?" The fun of watching the show happened when someone was overconfident in trusting themselves, and then sometimes they wouldn't know it and their partner would. They didn't win that much money on the show, but a few weeks later an anonymous stranger mailed them $500, because they said on the show that they wanted to have a large family and the stranger wanted to help them out. They went on to have eight children, due in some small part to Johnny Carson.
